Looming Qatar workshop aims to instill in students the curiosity to investigate, document, map, and analyze historical visual culture in SWANA. Participants in this workshop will examine the Qatar National Library Digital Repository to study graphics in historical materials and later develop a collection of vectorized visuals from the research findings. A mapping of intersections between the collected visuals and concurring cultural, social, economic, and political phenomena will emerge from this short archiving-oriented activity. The workshop’s output, an initial reservoir of graphic extractions from Qatar National Library, will be published on The Looming Council website, an open-source portal that facilitates access to resources relevant to Graphic Design in MENASA.

Participants should have basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and are required to bring their own laptops with the latest version of Adobe Illustrator for digitization/vectorizing.

This event is an in-person event for the VCUarts Qatar community only. Please use the registration button to register.
